Maserati launched its first Quattroporte
back in 1963 and has continued to make a version of this luxury four-door sports
saloon ever since. The fourth generation model came out in 1994 and was the
first Maserati to be produced under new owners Fiat, who had bought this
illustrious Italian marque from Alejandro de Tomaso in 1993.
An evolution of the Biturbo platform, the Quattroporte IV was
styled by Marcello Gandini (of Lamborghini Miura and Countach fame) and featured
his signature slashed rear wheel arch design which had first been seen on the
Countach and later on the Maserati Shamal. Initially powered by the 280bhp
twin-turbo 24-valve 2.8 V6 from the Ghibli, the Quattroporte IV got the flagship
